TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded outreach and student service project designed to provide services for limited-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO SSS provides direct support to students in the form of academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, and other supports necessary to increase the persistence, graduation, and transfer of participants.
TRIO Student Success Advisors will employ a proactive, intentional, and holistic advising approach to look for and mitigate issues, concerns, and roadblocks to student success. This includes academic advising, financial aid, financial literacy, transfer, career, and personal development advising. The TRIO SSS Advisors will coordinate academic support activities such as tutoring, service-learning leadership projects, and community events. Additionally, the TRIO Student Success Advisor will:
- Develop and implement outreach and referral pathways to recruit prospective TRIO participants.
- Participate in the intake process for TRIO SSS participants to include conducting orientations, interviews, and needs assessments.
- Plan and execute academic, social, and cultural workshops focused on grant needs.
- Facilitate student travel for transfer tours, cultural activities, and student retreats including lead and management of proper paperwork, lodging, car rentals, and other necessary planning.
- Coordinate and teach TRIO SSS Summer Bridge, an introduction to college course provided to new SSS-eligible students preparing for their first semester at ACC.
- Hire, supervise, and train a team of TRIO SSS Student Assistants (federal work study) to support office functions and grant goals.
This position is funded by a grant from the Department of Education in conjunction with ACC. The project is funded through August 31, 2025 with a possibility of continuing the grant for another five years. This position is contingent on continued grant funding.
