Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):
The Division of Medical and Behavioral Health exists to provide academic leadership across the divisions, in order to provide quality healthcare and public safety education that prepares the learner to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever-changing environment at all teaching sites and campuses. The Simulation Center assists the divisions in achieving this purpose by providing a state – of – the art-training environment for the students within the divisions of Health & Public Safety, Medical and Behavioral Health and for external training opportunities with area businesses.

This position specifically exists to provide day-to-day operation of all equipment in the Mancos campus simulation center along with logistics and maintenance of that equipment and maintenance and organization of the Mancos campus nursing lab.  In addition, this position exists to coordinate the development, placement, and implementation of all clinical activities for the students enrolled in the Mancos campus Nursing Program.  This position will work with the Director of Nursing Education Programs, Director of the Simulation Center, Mancos branch campus coordinator, deans, and faculty of the Health & Public Safety and Medical and Behavioral Health Divisions. This individual also works with other program faculty, off-campus staff, and the branch campus nursing coordinator in establishing laboratory/clinical schedules, maintenance of clinical affiliation requirements and other duties assigned.

This position will coordinate and provide support for external customers of the Mancos simulation center, which may include presentations at the secondary level and training programs to business partners.  The position will be supervised day-to-day by the Mancos branch campus nursing coordinator.

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Provide the technological support and ensure functionality of simulators and various laboratory support equipment by performing routine maintenance of manikins (weekly, after use, monthly) and troubleshooting any problems prior to running scenarios and preparing for laboratory assignments. Identify any maintenance issues and the appropriate resource for resolving problems, whether it is the vendor or IT.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance and ordering of laboratory/simulation supplies and assists the Nursing program faculty in organizing the nursing lab and providing assistance to students as needed.
  • Coordinates all clinical rotations with clinical affiliates and required clinical instruction prior to clinical rotations to include student/instructor orientation documentation, computer access, Pyxis access, security codes and other requirements set by clinical affiliates.
  • Prepares clinical schedules for student rotations and distributes to the clinical affiliates in a timely manner and communicates with clinical affiliates regarding placements needs and changes.
  • Participate in student simulations, which includes running of computer, setting up the appropriate scenario based on the learning objective, and voice of simulated patient. This function requires knowledge of simulation software.  Prepare the clinical environment for scenarios based on the learning objective and the required supplies and materials for each. Prepare documents for scenarios, which includes simulated patient information, scenario packets and faculty resource materials that are pertinent for the specific scenario.
  • Maintains a supervised and safe lab environment, assisting in the development of safety procedures for the laboratory including biohazard communication and blood borne pathogen standards.
  • Maintain adequate records and documentation of activities performed in the simulation lab
  • Maintains a consistent schedule between simulation, lab and clinical coordination duties
  • Participates in program promotional activities, community activities, and other duties as needed
  • Participates in regional and national self-studies and program reviews as required to maintain state program approval and national accreditation
  • Adheres to all laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations which govern and affect the College
