OVERVIEW OF CCA: 

 The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community College of Aurora is excited to be recruiting for an Online English Faculty position, focusing primarily in composition, to join our Department of Online and Blended Learning. The successful candidate will have a passion for student success and high-quality online instruction that is engaging, dynamic, inclusive, effective, equity-minded, and student-centered. We are seeking talented candidates who value and support the college’s mission and division’s goals of social and economic mobility, improving retention and success rates, as well as closing the equity gap through innovative online instruction. CCA expects quality instruction, academic standards, student support, and a strong commitment to student engagement and success.

Faculty duties include teaching and service as guided by SP 3-30. Teaching responsibilities include coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of online instruction and related activities. These responsibilities are aligned with individual, department, division, and college goals. In order to ensure the success of our students, faculty members are committed to evidence-based practices and an ongoing pursuit of excellence through professional learning. CCA’s online English courses are not self-paced but taught according to defined parts of term. Colorado residency is required. This is a predominantly remote position; occasional campus attendance may be necessary.

Service can include, but is not limited to, curriculum coordination and development; advising and outreach; system, college-wide and campus committee work; sponsoring and participating in student activities; leadership work; and attendance at college activities and events

 

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

 

Teaching

  • Uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college.
  • Maintain expertise in the subject area and effectively teach assigned online courses; develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to successful attainment of course competencies and outcomes.
  • Be knowledgeable about online pedagogy/andragogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes; be willing to participate in coaching/mentoring.
  • Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, multi-modal, challenging, equity-minded, student-centered, and engaging instruction.
  • Provide proactive and holistic support for students; this includes providing outreach, differential instruction with high expectations, and high support for students of varied preparedness.
  • Implement current and effective teaching and learning practices, including diversification of instructional delivery, incorporation of diverse sources and voices into curriculum, and demonstration of cultural competency in teaching.
  • According to established timelines and expectations, create and provide a course syllabus for each assigned class to the department. Provide students with department approved syllabi by the first day of classes in the LMS.
  • Maintain accurate records according to department/division/college expectations and guidelines, including Instructional Guideline 2.11, in the college LMS – Desire2Learn (D2L). Submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines.
  • Evaluate student performance in a constructive, timely, and effective manner as stated in the course syllabus.
  • Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices.
  • Complete all required instructional professional learning activities including a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during the first semester.
  • Stay current with and implement expectations by reading emails regularly and attending departmental, divisional, and college meetings as called by the Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and President.
  • Understand and uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college, while abiding by all relevant CCA guidelines and CCCS/SBCCOE policies and procedures.

Service

Faculty are expected to engage in activities in order to establish a strong sense of community and support the college and the work of colleagues and students. Examples include the following:

  • Participate in or lead activities which work to fulfill the mission and goals of the college outside of the classroom.
  • Contribute to the department through service, including curriculum coordination and development and departmental assessment.
  • Conduct student academic advising and outreach as needed.
  • Participate in system, college-wide, and campus committee work.
  • Sponsor and participate in student activities.
  • Contribute to and attend college activities and events.
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities.
  • Provide contributions to the discipline.
