The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring an Education Specialist II to join the Colorado State Approving Agency for our Veterans Education & Training team at System Office. This team directly supports 270 approved academic institutions and 30,000 veterans and family members attending programs in Colorado. In this role you will act as a program manager in developing and overseeing all program approvals and scheduling and conducting supervisory and facilities inspections of approved institutions. You will provide technical assistance to approved institutions when required per Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cooperative agreement. The person in this position will participate in Risk-Based Surveys and Targeted Risk-Based Surveys as assigned by the VA. If you want to join a team that works to give veterans and their families access to a better education and therefore a better life, this position is for you!

Examples of Duties

  • Independently respond to requests for program approval as assigned by the director. Rely on administrative acumen, expert knowledge, and analysis of federal law to assess whether programs are accredited or non-accredited and residency or employee-based programs. Determine program approval or program disapproval in accordance with federal law.
  • Conduct various surveys assigned by VA Central Office and as dictated by the VA cooperative agreement between the VA and the Colorado State Approving Agency for Veterans Education and Training.
  • Independently exercise clear judgment and statistical analysis during pre-planning, onsite inspections, and post close-out procedures, following all federal laws during the surveys.
  • Evaluate and analyze statistical triggers to ensure compliance with financial payments to the VA, certification of tuition and fees, potentially fraudulent activities, enrollment practices, and all line items in accordance with risk-based survey audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 years of related administrative experience in education or government.
  • Experience managing a GI Bill program at a college or university.
