Northeastern Junior College seeks an individual to serve as the director of student success, equity and inclusion for Northeastern Junior College.  The Director of Student Success, Equity & Inclusion directs and conducts the office and staff functions for guidance/advising/assessment services including the positions of Career Coach, Guidance Coordinator, Student Success Specialist, COSI Coordinator and Administrative Assistant.  The Director works for the Vice President of Student Services and implements strategies and procedures to enhance the success of all students, and may directly counsel and advise students.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Oversee the Guidance/Advising/Assessment services department in Student Services, including the positions of Guidance Coordinator, Student Success Specialist, COSI Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant.
  • Serve as the college lead for student success.  Design and implement programs to assist students in understanding career and study area choices, and ensuring students are guided through college processes including financial aid, academic support and student services.  Monitor early alert systems to identify at-risk students and implement corrective strategies.
  • Serve as the lead for college diversity, equity and inclusion programs focusing on increasing the opportunities for education and success once enrolled.   The outcome of the DEI program includes reducing the equity achievement gap for minority students.  Recommend strategies for NJC to achieve and sustain Hispanic Serving Institution status.
  • Support academic advising, and serve as an advisor during the summer months and other peak times as needed.
  • Assist in academic advising, academic probation, and faculty referrals.  Ensure NJC students are provided resources for probation planning, drug and alcohol prevention and other support as requested, including that provided by NJC and the local community.
  • Maintain student contact data regarding academic probation, advising, transfer, career planning, and all other departmental contacts with students.
  • Supervise/oversee the administration of testing services offered in the Student Success Services department, including the delivery of Accuplacer, CLEP, KAPLAN, Pearson, distance testing and other relevant testing services for NJC students and the community.
  • Develop department budgets and determine financial feasibility.
  • Represent Student Success services at various campus administrative meetings; serve on Learning Services, Curriculum & Instruction, and Academic Standards committees.
  • Supervise the registration and orientation processes; coordinate efforts with the Admissions department, Housing & Student Activities, and the Academic division.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by the Vice President of Student Services and/or College President.
  • Work closely with NJC service area high schools to provide academic and career advising.
  • Facilitate new academic advisor training

Contract Specifics:  This is a full time position which includes benefits.  Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000 based upon qualifications paid over 12 months.  Competitive fringe benefit package available through the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE).  Starting date negotiable. Must submit to and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check as a condition of hire.

College/Community Profile:

Northeastern Junior College, one of 13 member-colleges of the Community Colleges of Colorado, lies in the rural northeastern Colorado town of Sterling.  The community of approximately 13,000 residents enjoys easy access to Denver, the Rocky Mountains and the western-agricultural lifestyle.  Northeastern Junior College enrolls approximately 1,500 full and part-time students through a wide variety of majors in associate degree and certificate programs.  Approximately 65-70% of our students indicated they plan to transfer on to complete a four-year degree while the other 30-35% of our students pursue careers after completing an AAS degree or certificate program.  As a residential campus with six residence halls accommodating 550 students, the college attracts students from throughout Colorado, many states and several foreign countries.  Approximately 50 full-time and 30 part-time faculty comprise the teaching staff.
