Position title
Director of Communications & Marketing
Description

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Director of Communications & Marketing to join our Public & Legislative Affairs team. We’re looking for a seasoned communicator with experience in large organizations, preferably in higher education or government. If you are looking for an opportunity to lead a small team of marketing professionals to promote the benefits of community colleges, this position may be for you! CCCS provides generous leave, excellent benefits, and flexible work schedules, including hybrid-remote work within the state of Colorado.

NOTE: This recruitment requires all applicants to submit two writing samples: a press release or media announcement and a short-form storytelling piece (such as a blog post, op-ed, or internal newsletter). Applications without these submissions will not be considered complete.

Examples of Duties

In this role, you will lead our communications and marketing efforts, including strategy development, team oversight, and campaign execution. This role coordinates efforts to promote CCCS, its initiatives, and its impact on the state of Colorado. You will also  oversee content creation for both traditional and digital platforms and manage public relations, media relations, and act as the backup for emergency response communications. This role supervises two Marketing Managers.

Some duties of the position include

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive communication and marketing strategy aligned with CCCS goals and objectives (referred to as the “department editorial calendar”).
  • Engaging with stakeholders, including department leadership, to understand key objectives and provide strategic recommendations that align with CCCS’s communication goals.
  • Managing marketing budgets, including procurements, invoicing, reimbursements, and fiscal requirements.
  • Coordinating with the Marketing Managers and outside vendors to oversee monthly content calendars for traditional and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with the editorial calendar.
  • Writing and editing communications including press releases, speeches, editorials, newsletters, blogs, and legislative factsheets, testimony, and reports.
  • Overseeing internal and external communications, ensuring content is relevant, timely, and on-brand.
  • Serving as primary media contact, ensuring media responses are timely and aligned with CCCS’s values.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or other related field, from an accredited college or university. Relevant education and experience may substitute year-for-year for the required degree.
  • Three years of experience managing communications and marketing campaigns for a large organization, preferably in higher education, K-12 education, workforce development/labor & employment, or healthcare.
  • Experience in public relations, media relations, and/or crisis communications.
