The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Digital Accessibility Specialist to join our CCCS Academic Technology team. We’re looking for an independent worker who can guide a diverse group of stakeholders toward building more accessible content for our 13 colleges and System Office. Examples of Duties
The Digital Accessibility Specialist guides and collaborates with faculty, the CCCS colleges and System Office staff so they may build accessible digital content. In this role you will drive initiatives to remediate accessibility issues and provide mentoring to Learning Designers, web developers, CCCS Open Educational Resources (OER) Services, Academic Technologists, and other groups who create digital content to develop and maintain accessible digital experiences.
- Provide mentoring and information on the remediation of HTML for websites and other web content to college and system staff and faculty to enable them to remediate their digital content and documents.
- Provide training on technology tools and online resources to allow college and system office staff and faculty to make their own digital content accessible.
- Provide mentoring and subject matter expertise to various functional teams on creating and updating digital content to meet web accessibility standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert to the CCCS Professional Development Coordinator and college professional development staff on developing web accessibility training.
- Support faculty and college staff with the results of the online accessibility checker tool. Provide instructions on how to remediate the digital content.
- Assess the accessibility of webpages and other documents used for OER, Learning Management System (LMS) courses, and web applications developed by Academic Technology using an accessibility checker, screen reader, and other assistive technology tools.
- As college and System Office staff request new integrations with the Learning Management System (D2L Brightspace), assess if the vendor product being integrated with the LMS are accessible by reviewing the VPAT.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to computer science, information technology, user experience design, digital communications, or educational technology. Additional relevant experience will be considered as a substitute for degrees in a non-related area.
- Two years of practical experience in accessibility implementation, including with accessibility testing and remediation tools and assistive technologies.
- Experience with interpreting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
- Experience with HTML.
