Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):

The purpose of the Medical and Behavioral Health Division is to provide the educational needs of and academic support services for PCC students and our diverse community, and to ensure student success by offering quality, comprehensive educational opportunities. The Medical and Behavioral Health Division supports both the transfer and program functions of the College.

This full-time administrative leadership position specifically exists to provide leadership, supervision and direction of all programs and staff assigned to the Medical and Behavioral Health Division, while building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. This division includes all Nursing programs, Surgical Technology, Psychiatric Technician, Certified Nurse Aide, Simulation, and Medical Assistant. Under the guidance of the Vice President, Academic Support, this position is responsible for the planning and administration of the division’s budget and resource allocation, including personnel, external funding and equipment and facilities. This position has been identified by Pueblo Community College as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines. As a Campus Security Authority, the incumbent in this position is required to report crimes that they become aware of to the Department of Public Safety at Pueblo Community College and must attend annual training related to these responsibilities.

 

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Support the achievement of academic operations within the Division across all campuses and sites by:
    • Directing the development of programs and curricula
    • Assuring the consistent delivery of instruction with innovative methods, including accelerated courses, online and hybrid courses, flex courses, and open educational resources
    • Assessing both new and current program opportunities related to program viability which include; feasibility, sustainability and growth
    • Working collaboratively with administrators specific to student success, campus operations, and other academic divisions. Adopting, implementing, and supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies throughout the Division, including Equity-Minded Teaching and Culturally-Relevant Pedagogy
    • Assisting the department chairs and coordinators in supervising faculty and staff involved in instruction
    • Working collaboratively with administrators specific to student success, campus operations, other academic divisions, and branch campuses and sites
    • Maintaining current curriculum maps, transfer guides, articulations, and program web page content to ensure clear, efficient, and illustrated paths to graduation
    • Serving as the primary contact for faculty and student with concerns regarding academic issues
    • Assisting the department chairs and coordinators in supervising faculty and staff involved in instruction
    • Ensuring continuous quality improvement through implementation and usage of assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Adhere to the governing rules of CCCS, the fiscal rules of the State of Colorado, individual accrediting bodies, and CDHE by:
    • Monitoring all activities required by college, state and federal guidelines
    • Monitoring all activities required for program accreditation, program reviews, credentialing requirements, CTE local plans
    • Assuring compliance with expenditure reports and equipment inventory
    • Coordinating and assisting the department chairs in planning and administering the division's departmental budgets
    • Pursuing grants and alternative funding sources to support the division programs.
    • Overseeing the preparation of biweekly/monthly employment contracts/teaching loads
  • Support college initiatives within the division and between other entities across the campuses by:
    • Conducting department chair and division meetings
    • Participating in All Faculty meetings
    • Serving as an administrative liaison to assigned faculty or adhoc committees, or project teams
    • Attending and participating in all required meetings, training sessions or other college-wide related functions
    • Proposing and leading new initiatives, to include those increasing diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Ensure college operations are supported by communication and support from the Medical and Behavioral Health Division by:
    • Informing the Vice President, Academic Support of division program, financial and personnel standing
    • Serving in any other capacity to perform duties and responsibilities assigned by the Vice President, Academic Support.
    • Participating in community programs, including civic, charity, or professional organizations that further the mission of the college
    • Serve as a college Campus Security Authority.
    • Demonstrated success increasing diversity of students/employees and implementing diversity initiatives
  • Provide collaborative training opportunities:
    • Partnering with business and industry to provide quality clinical opportunities, including observations, clinicals, internships and externships to enhance the education of the students in the Nursing division.
    • Building partnerships to provide quality co-curricular activities to enhance the education of the students, particularly as it leads to enhanced cultural awareness and inclusive values
    • Overseeing and assisting department chairs and clinical coordinators that the clinical requirements such as contracts, clinical orientation, malpractice insurance, background checks, drug screens and immunizations are meeting the needs of our clinical partners.
    • Pursue partnerships with business and industry to enhance the academic, laboratory and hands on experience of students.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Represent the Division by communicating with the public during PCC sponsored activities. Attend graduation of students.
