The Visual, Audio, and Media Arts Department (VAMA) department at Red Rocks Community College is accepting applications for part-time Instructor(s) during the upcoming Spring 2024 semester to teach Commercial Photography courses. The Visual, Audio, and Media Arts Department (Journalism, Graphics Design, Videography and Film, UI/UX, and Simulation and Game Design, and Photography) provides students with opportunities for growth and development that set the foundation for self-directed learning, academic achievement, relevant, real-world training, and career accomplishment for commercial application.

We do this through high quality, innovative educational programs using current technical, creative, and software trends in the industry. We convey our passion for learning, our commitment to excellence, and our dedication to our students in the communities we serve.

Through critical thinking we prepare our students, both entry level and continuing education to create the necessary skill set in visual communication and production of photographic images, motion, graphics or digital media.

The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program.

This posting will be used to fill multiple part-time Instructor vacancies. Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.

Essential Responsibilities

VAMA courses are scheduled in a variety of time frames and modalities. Instructors could teach from 1-4 courses (3 credits) per semester. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends. Most courses are full-term (15 weeks) and meet once or twice per week.

  • Classroom Instruction

Required to meet all class periods start and end classes promptly. Teach assigned curriculum and make use of required texts and materials. Provide students with a complete syllabus before the first day of class that includes information on course description, objectives, assignments, grading policies, and contact information. Provide data on student attendance (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.), promptly. Use technology to facilitate learning including meeting the required minimum standards for the use of the college learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L).

  • Student Assessment

Maintain updated and accurate grading records in D2L and submit all final grades by the due date in the college student information system, Banner. Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding progress and grades on assignments.

  • Planning 

Prepare for each class meeting and consider learning strategies that address diverse learning styles and a diverse community college student population. Class content and assessment methods should relate to course objectives.

  • Communication

Respond timely to students and RRCC staff every 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after grades are submitted. Attend department staff meetings throughout the semester as scheduled. Provide updates to the department chair.

Payment is based on the credit hour/contact hour and class ratio as assigned to you by the department chair. RRCC starts at $1048.57 to $1572.86 per credit hour.
