Summary of Position

The Red Rocks Community College Biology Department is seeking enthusiastic instructors that have a passion for teaching and helping students succeed in their chosen field. A successful candidate creates a classroom climate that encourages learning.

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

The instructor must be an enthusiastic professional with a passion for teaching and helping students succeed.  They also must be patient and respectful, while also providing expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the department and program.

Finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online courses.

Courses filled by this position may include the following:
BIO 1111: General College Biology I in a face-to-face format
(likely section is Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30am – 2:30pm)

*Payment is based on the credit hour/contact hour and class ratio as assigned to you by the department chair. RRCC starts at $1,572.86/credit hr - $1,730.14/credit hr including lab.

Description of Position

An adjunct instructor position is available to teach BIO 1111 (General College Biology I I with Lab).  Instructors need to be available to teach face-to-face at the RRCC Lakewood Campus on a part-time basis.
Essential Functions: 

  • Classroom Instruction

Required to meet all class periods and start and end classes promptly. Teach assigned curriculum and make use of required texts and materials. Provide students with a complete and accessible syllabus before the first day of class that includes information on course description, objectives, assignments, grading policies, and contact information. Provide data on student attendance (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.), promptly. Use technology to facilitate learning including meeting the required minimum standards for the use of the College learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L).

  • Student Assessment (Grading)

Maintain updated and accurate grading records in D2L and submit all final grades by the due date in the college student information system, Banner. Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding progress and grades on assignments.

  • Planning

Prepare for each class meeting and consider learning strategies that address diverse learning styles and a diverse community college student population. Class content and assessment methods should relate to course objectives and be consistent with departmental guidelines.

  • Communication

Respond timely to students and RRCC staff every 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after grades are submitted. Attend department staff meetings throughout the semester as scheduled. Provide updates to the department chair.

Ancillary Duties :

One week prior to the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead with a copy of the course syllabus for approval
Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester

Follow college and departmental policies and procedures

Instructors can participate in professional development opportunities provided through the department, the college, or the Colorado Community College System.

Typical Work Schedule (Dates and Times): The current available class is M/W 11:30am-2:30pm.  Additional work time is required outside of the posted class hours.
