The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join our System Office Legal team. This position provides legal services and legal-related activities for the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education and the Colorado Community College System. You’ll be the direct legal counsel for several of the System colleges and spend a considerable amount of time overseeing their legal needs. Duties Include:
- Advising the System and College staff on employment and student matters, including conduct issues, internal complaints and grievances, agency complaints (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission/Colorado Civil Rights Division/United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights), and day-to-day legal or policy questions regarding employees and students.
- Participating in the review and development of Board policies and System procedures with an eye towards compliance.
- Reviewing transactional matters for the System and Colleges, which includes reviewing contracts, leases, construction documents, goods and services, and grants.
- Advising the appropriate members of System Office divisions to ensure the operations of the System Office are effective. This includes identifying legal risks and proposing mitigating strategies. As part of this duty, you’ll provide legal support and high-level training to System-wide executive and senior leadership groups.
- Keeping up to date on current legal developments concerning higher education.
- Advising the Board, System Chancellor, and System Executive team on legal matters.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Five years’ experience representing a public higher education institution or similar government experience.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado or eligible for admission to the Colorado Bar within a short period of time.
