Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):

The OPTICA Title V Grant exists to provide academic and student services support to first generation and low-income students along with providing professional development opportunities for faculty and staff regarding culturally aware pedagogy. Both efforts aim to improve retention, graduation, and transfer rates for first generation and low-income students.

Supported by a federal Title V grant through the U.S. Department of Education, this position exists specifically to provide supervision, program planning and budget management related to the student affairs component of the Title V OPTICA grant. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Title V OPTICA Grant and provides administrative and leadership support in the implementation of the mission and goals of the grant. The Assistant Director will be a full-time Administrative-Professional position. This position requires a varied work schedule that includes evening and weekends, and requires travel, in state and out of state.

 

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Budget and Data: Works with the Director to ensures accurate up-to-date program data is entered and readily available for the Title V OPTICA grant for timely submission of each Annual Performance Report every March to the U.S. Department of Education. Compile, review and analyze program evaluation documentation for all program activities, services and events. Assist with evaluation and data analysis using Navigate Analytics to ensure that grant objectives are being met. Work closely with PCC Institutional Research staff to create real-time data to ensure proactive decision making for First Year Programming for the Title V OPTICA grant.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership in developing and implementing all grant objectives/goals, first year programming, workshops, new student onboarding and the Peer Mentoring program to include direct oversite of program calendar, event planning, and management efforts. In collaboration with the Director, monitor grant activities to ensure compliance with federal program regulations and guidelines.
  • Supervision: Directly hires, supervises, trains and evaluates performance of student hourly employees. Provides input and feedback to the Director on strategic planning of the grant. Provides supervisory support to First Year Coordinators and other team members, assisting in the more difficult advising situations, providing training, assistance, and developing program design and implementation to address departmental initiatives and mandates.
  • Assist First Year Coordinators in compiling data and write reports documenting program outcomes and accomplishments for U.S. Department of Education, the College, and the community.
  • Serve as a Student Services liaison and teach first year experience courses to educate first year students on a variety of strategies to develop successful habits that will promote student success and achievement.
  • Active membership and participation in student affairs professional organizations to gain knowledge of best practices and participate in trainings and workshops that ensure grant compliance and student needs are met.
  • Assists the Director of the Title V OPTICA Grant with other special assignments as needed. Serving as team leadership in the absence of the Director.
