The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Compliance Specialist to join our Internal Audit team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning and executing Civil Rights monitoring reviews, which include measuring facilities to determine if they are accessible to an individual with a disability, as well as reviewing policies and procedures to determine if they comply with Civil Rights laws. The reviews are conducted at the 13 CCCS community colleges, eligible K-12 school districts, and other postsecondary institutions across the state. To complete the reviews, you’ll conduct site visits, document, and report on the results, and perform follow-up to determine whether corrections have been implemented.
Examples of Duties
- Travel to educational institutions, measure facilities to ensure accessibility, and document results of measurements.
- Interview school/college personnel to determine whether practices and procedures comply with Civil Rights laws.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Office for Civil Rights guidance including Title VI, Title IX, Title II (ADA), and Section 504, as well as relevant Code of Federal Regulations.
- Prepare reports documenting results of the Civil Rights monitoring reviews.
- Serve as liaison between CCCS and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.
- Perform follow-up site visits and documentation review to ensure completion of corrective action at districts/ colleges.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- One year of work experience with a background in a regulatory environment such as health care, paralegal, accounting, public policy, or student affairs, counseling, or facilities management, or other related industry.
