Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):

The purpose of the Arts and Sciences Department within the Academic Affairs Division is to meet the educational needs of and provide academic support services in the core general education and specialty courses for PCC students and our diverse community, and to ensure student success by offering quality, comprehensive, rigorous, innovative educational opportunities. The Arts and Sciences Division supports both the transfer and program functions of the College.

Job Summary Statement (brief summary of overall responsibility of position):

This full-time administrative leadership position exists specifically to provide leadership, supervision and direction of all programs, faculty and staff assigned to the Arts and Sciences Division, while building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. Under the guidance of the Vice President of Academic Services/CAO, this position is responsible for the planning and administration of the division’s budget and resource allocation, including personnel, external funding and equipment and facilities.

This position has been identified by Pueblo Community College as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines. As a Campus Security Authority, the incumbent in this position is required to report crimes that they become aware of to the Department of Public Safety at Pueblo Community College and must attend annual training related to these responsibilities.

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Academic Leadership- Leads and supports the achievement of academic operations within the Division across all campuses and sites by:
    • Directing the development of programs and curricula
    • Assuring consistent delivery of instruction with innovative methods, including accelerated courses, online and hybrid courses, flex courses, and open educational resources
    • Maintaining current curriculum maps, transfer guides, articulations, and program web page content to ensure clear, efficient, and illustrated paths to graduation
    • Adopting, implementing, and supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies throughout the Division, including Equity-Minded Teaching and Culturally-Relevant Pedagogy
    • Overseeing laboratory safety, hygiene, training, and emergency preparedness through close coordination with the Lab Coordinator
    • Working collaboratively with administrators specific to student success, campus operations, other academic divisions, and branch campuses and sites
    • Assisting the department chairs and coordinators in supervising faculty and staff involved in instruction
    • Serving as the primary contact for faculty and student with concerns regarding academic issues
    • Ensuring continuous quality improvement through implementation and usage of assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Fiscal Responsibilities- Adheres to the governing rules of CCCS, the fiscal rules of the State of Colorado, individual accrediting bodies, and CDHE by:
    • Monitoring all activities required by college, state and federal guidelines
    • Monitoring all activities required for program accreditation, program reviews, credentialing requirements, CTE local plans
    • Assuring compliance with expenditure reports and equipment inventory
    • Coordinating and assisting the department chairs in planning and administering the division's departmental budgets
    • Pursuing grants and alternative funding sources to support the division programs approved through the grant approval process
    • Overseeing the preparation of biweekly/monthly employment contracts/teaching loads
  • Proposing and leading new initiatives- Ensure college operations are supported by communication and support from the Arts and Sciences Division by:
    • Informing the Vice President of Academic Services of division program, financial and personnel standing
    • Serving in any other capacity to perform duties and responsibilities assigned by the Vice President of Academic Services
    • Participating in community programs, including civic, charity, or professional organizations that further the mission of the college.
    • Serve the as a college CSA. This position has been identified by Pueblo Community College as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines.   • Collaboration and Partnership- Provide collaborative training opportunities:
    • Building partnerships to provide quality co-curricular activities to enhance the education of the students, particularly as it leads to enhanced cultural awareness and inclusive values
    • Pursue partnerships with business and industry to enhance the academic, laboratory and hands on experience of students.

Non- Essential Functions:

  • Works independently with little supervision or as part of a team.
  • Communicates effectively with students, colleagues and others.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with students, colleagues and others.
  • Assesses individual and department work processes and recommends improvements.
  • Complies with System and College protocols and departmental procedures.
  • Obtains and maintains proficiency with required systems and equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.
  • Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
  • Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.
