POSITION SUMMARY     

The Community College of Aurora is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Facilities Manager. This position will assist the Director of Facilities in overseeing the grounds and custodial staff at our CentreTech campus and contracted custodial services at our Lowry campus.

The Facilities Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the college's grounds and custodial services, creating a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Additionally, the Facilities Manager will serve as a backup to the Facilities Director when needed, assist with building maintenance issues and major projects, and require a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Assist the Director of Facilities in planning, organizing, and directing all activities related to the grounds and custodial staff, ensuring effective utilization of resources.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the grounds and custodial staff, ensuring work is completed efficiently and in compliance with established standards and procedures. This position will also be responsible for the supervision, performance reviews, and payroll functions of the CCA custodial and grounds staff at CentreTech.
  • Assist in the oversight of CCA’s contracted cleaning staff in facilities on the Lowry campus.  This includes performing routine inspections of their work and managing custodial supply inventories.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for the college's grounds, including regular inspections and maintenance schedules for landscaping, irrigation systems, parking lots, and outdoor facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities to develop and manage the department's budget, focusing on grounds and custodial services, and ensure optimal allocation of resources.
  • Serve as a backup to the Facilities Director, stepping into their role and responsibilities when needed.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and performance evaluation of grounds and custodial staff, fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism.
  • Conduct regular meetings with staff to communicate expectations, provide feedback, and address any concerns or issues pertaining to grounds and custodial services.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and promote a culture of safety among grounds and custodial staff.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborate with other departments, contractors, and vendors to coordinate activities related to grounds and custodial services.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices, new technologies, and relevant regulations related to grounds and custodial services to improve processes and implement innovative solutions.
  • Manage the college's MS4 permitting and stormwater management, including submitting annual reports.
  • Assist the Director of Facilities with building maintenance issues and major projects as needed.
  • Respond to facility work orders and concern calls.  Either address the concern personally or contact the appropriate vendor to address/repair.
  • Complete all follow up with staff.

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
Experience
 
Minimum of 4 years of experience in grounds and custodial management, preferably in an educational institution or similar setting.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and supervise a diverse team.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
Knowledge of grounds maintenance and custodial best practices, including landscaping, irrigation, parking lot maintenance, and custodial cleaning procedures.
Familiarity with relevant safety and environmental regulations pertaining to grounds and custodial services.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with all stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Licensure/Certification

Valid driver's license and the ability to travel between campuses as required.

Equipment and Software         

Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.
