Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):
The mission of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Department at Pueblo Community College is to provide quality Physical Therapist Assistant education to prepare graduates for entry level employment as a Physical Therapist Assistant to meet the needs of the profession.
The PTA department of Pueblo Community College strives to provide quality healthcare and public safety education that prepares the learner to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever-changing environment through learning experiences that respect the diversity of our students. The chair of the PTA program is both an administrative position and faculty position. The position is responsible for academic and clinical instruction, curriculum design, and fiscal management of the PTA program, and providing leadership and supervision of all faculty within the PTA program.

This position specifically exist within the Health and Public Safety Division and serves as a .875 FTE faculty member in the Physical Therapist Assistant Department. This individual is responsible for providing student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, maintaining required program standards for the Commission for the Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and applicable state regulations as applied to the Physical Therapist Assistant profession education in Colorado. The Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education’s responsibilities include communication, curriculum, assessment of student learning, and resources for the assigned area. An Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education is appointed at the discretion of the Program Chair and appropriate Dean. Specific professional responsibilities and faculty evaluation criteria are outlined in PCC’s Faculty Compensation and Evaluation Plan.
In addition to faculty responsibilities, faculty are also expected to support and assist with student orientations, advising, and registration. Absences will be minimal and only for appropriate cause; notification of supervisor is required. Faculty must provide coverage or obtain approval for class cancellation according to PCC policy. Two personal days per year are available with approval. Refer to PCC Operational Procedures and Protocols for further information.
Faculty are expected to model professionalism in dress, action, and communication. Accordingly, faculty are obliged to respond professionally to constructive feedback and to follow the chain of command in resolving conflicts.
Job Duties
Essential Functions:
- Secure, coordinate, track and verify new and existing clinical affiliation contracts and ensure compliance with clinical education requirements as stated by the Commission on the Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTA).
- Collaborate with clinical site educators on school/site objectives, and learning outcomes. Orient students to clinical internship expectations and requirements.
- Teach courses and maintain, and update course syllabi in accordance to the accreditation and college standards.
- Assist the department chair with the following: establishment of program goals and objectives, development of departmental courses, curriculum review, application process, student advising, assessment of student learning, course schedules, catalog revisions, graduation planning sheets, coordination of advisory committee meetings, selection and hiring of program instructors and ordering of program supplies and equipment.
- Assist in program/department reviews, revisions, and regional/national self-studies for accreditation. Assist the department chair to ensure program compliance with both state and national accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Associate of Applied Science Degree: Physical Therapy or Physical Therapist Assistant
Licenses or Certificates:
- Active, unrestricted PT license or PTA license/certification
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice.
- Minimum of two years of clinical practice as an SCCE and/or CI or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapy education program.
- Student evaluation and outcomes assessment
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Use of computer technology including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
- Knowledge of regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students and the profession of physical therapy.
- Demonstrated skill working with a diverse population
- Ability to communicate clearly to multiple diverse groups to include administration, stakeholders, employees, and students.
