The Automotive & Diesel instructor will work as part of a three instructor team to prepare students for careers in the Light Duty Vehicle and Heavy Duty Equipment industry as repair and maintenance technicians. This position must model ethical and professional behavior and act as a role model for students. This position will work with instructors, students, and other administrative personnel as needed to maintain an engaging and safe working environment.
Students who complete the program will repair and maintain light duty vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, agricultural equipment, and/or industrial equipment. Responsibilities will include developing curriculum such as demonstrations, tests, homework, and shop work for automotive and diesel courses. The instructor will assist fellow instructors to supervise and manage the Automotive and Diesel shops. The position will work with local vendors to keep the shop operating which will include identifying equipment needs and purchasing supplies.
In addition, the individual must be an effective recruiter and must be able to develop respect and rapport with fellow instructors, industry employers, potential students, and supporters of the program throughout the region. NJC is an iPad intensive college and applicants should be familiar with and comfortable using iPad and/or tablet technology.

Qualifications:
- Technical expertise in the repair and maintenance of equipment & vehicles. These experiences must enable the employee to perform the stated requirements and functions of the position
- Applicants who are less than fully qualified are encouraged to apply and will be considered
- Ability to obtain ASE Certifications in Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests (T1 - T8) and/ or ASE certification in G1, A6, and in the automobile area (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A7, and A8) depending on the instructor qualifications and the course taught. The department will pay the testing fees upon employment
- Instructors teaching Engine Performance must also be ASE certified in L1 - Advanced Engine Performance
- Must qualify for a Colorado Career & Technical Credential by being able to document 4,000 hours of paid work experience in the light duty and/or heavy duty repair industries
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Associate degree in a related technical field
- Experience with a variety of hand held and laptop diagnostic tools
- Appropriate computer experience required in word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets
- Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of settings with a diverse audience
- Refined presentation and facilitation skills

Northeastern Junior College, one of 13 member-colleges of the Community Colleges of Colorado, lies in the rural northeastern Colorado town of Sterling.
