Lamar Community College (LCC), a comprehensive public community college in Southeast Colorado, is seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our team. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt head coaching position. The position is responsible for all aspects of the intercollegiate rodeo program at Lamar Community College. This includes coaching, instructing, mentoring, recruiting, planning, organizing, budgeting, and promoting the LCC Rodeo program. Program coordination and communication will be maintained between Rodeo Coach and HTM/Agriculture Department Chair. As the head rodeo coach, this position must support the mission and purpose of the institution athletics and have a sincere desire to assist in developing young men and women as athletes, students, and people of good character.
- Demonstrate sportsmanship and mentoring while serving as the Head Rodeo Coach
- Recruit and retain quality student athletes. Implement and maintain Athletic Code of Conduct as well as specific team rules.
- Design and instruct deliberate team practice sessions, including individual training sessions that allow for skill development and assessment of every student-athlete.
- Lead student athletes in regular review of practice and event videos to develop strategies for improving skills.
- Develop fall and spring rodeo and practice schedule.
- Implement mentoring activities and exercises that demonstrate leadership, promote community and foster team cohesion.
- Promote program with in the community-to include planning and coaching special events involving the team including instruction clinics and local rodeo events.
- Recruit student-athletes in accordance with NIRA and employer rules and regulations including official and unofficial recruiting visits and admissions procedures.
- Comply with all requirements of FERPA, Title IX, Clery, policies of the institution, the Colorado Community College System, and all local, state and federal laws while performing the required duties of the position.
- Purchases all equipment and supplies to maintain the rodeo program within department budget. Works in cooperation with Agriculture Department Chair to maintain a balanced budget.
- Record keeping – athletic administration, participation, eligibility, individual and team statistics, equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for the team which may include, hotel accommodations and expense tracking/reporting according to employer, Colorado Community College and State of Colorado purchasing guidelines.
- Conduct athletic fund-raising activities in accordance with employer and CCCS guidelines.
- Monitors and advises the academic progress of student-athletes within the program.
- Operates within the budget requirements, fiscal rules and institutional policy.
- Assist HTM program with instructional support and substitute teaching as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining facilities and equipment used by LCC Rodeo Program
- Secure and monitor practice stock as necessary.
- Monitors, records and bills feed and bedding used by rodeo athletes.
- Maintains a stall map of all boarded horses in the program.
- Cooperates with HTM staff in maintaining the facility.
- Oversee the hiring, supervising and timesheet approvals for work-study students.
- Other duties as assigned or needed.
