Tutoring and Cocurricular Coordinator
Description

The Tutoring and Cocurricular Program Coordinator works to oversee the needs of students in the Learning Resource Center and is responsible for the implementation of cocurricular programing and providing tutoring to students.  This individual will be responsible for all aspects of tutoring including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising all tutors; working with coaches to arrange study halls; and providing supplementary programing as part of the larger MAP to Success Center  team and will directly supervise, manage, and monitor the implementation of cocurricular programming.  The Coordinator oversees the budget for tutoring and cocurricular programming and makes recommendations, monitors expenses, and ensures that reports of student use are accurate and concise. 

Duties Include:

  • Provide for the delivery of comprehensive tutoring services through the MAP Center
  • Design, implement, deliver and evaluate cocurricular programs, such as service learning, experiential learning, and related programs
  • Under the guidance of the MAP Center Director; hire, train, and supervise tutors/work studies
  • Lead others and work as a team in the delivery of cocurricular programming
  • Enter classrooms to connect with students and faculty to encourage their involvement in the Learning Resource Center and its activities as well as determine individual or group learning support needs
  • Maintain accurate hourly time records for tutors, work studies, and manage tutoring budget
  • Manage the collection of usage statistics and generate the Vestibule Lab Usage Report. The Coordinator is responsible for monitoring this report and working to increase student usage
  • Follow up with instructors and students as needed
  • Assist in contacting Early Alert students and arranging tutoring opportunities
  • Participate in Academic Division and campus wide meetings; serve on campus committees as requested; participate in new student orientation sessions; participate in professional, campus, and community activities.
  • Assist with additional Academic and LCC wide annual events including Regional Science Fair and the Career Fair.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field plus direct and relevant work experience with students in higher education equivalent to a master’s degree
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Experience in educational programming
  • Demonstrated managerial or coordinator role experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in student affairs, education, psychology, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in tutoring
  • Proven ability to relate well to faculty and staff at institutions of higher education
  • Experience working in a leadership role, specifically in the development of student organizations
  • Knowledge of student population served at community colleges including an ability to assist and guide a diverse student population having a great range of skills, motivations, and academic or vocational goals
  • Knowledge of differing approaches to student learning and student persistence and retention
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, and follow up on projects, including the ability to set specific objectives and measure achieved results
