Sports and Exercise Science Instructor/ Athletic Trainer
Description

Lamar Community College is seeking a dynamic individual to serve in a unique full-time, year round faculty hybrid position. The qualified applicant will teach courses related to sports and exercise science, and will also serve as the Runnin' Lopes Athletic Trainer. Assisting student athletes during practices and competition.

The academic position includes three courses a semester (including but not limited to Introduction to Sports Medicine; Exercise, Nutrition and Body Composition; Exercise and Sports Psychology; Personal trainer Prep Class, and Practicums).    The individual will act as a faculty advisor to students within the program and participate in faculty events. The individual will also be responsible for the care of LCC athletes before and during practices and games. This position will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science or Similar.  Qualifications:  Ability to obtain Colorado License for Athletic Trainer
  • Sufficient preparation to teach college-level courses and at least one year of teaching experience in Sports and Exercise Science preferably at the college level.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of diverse teaching methods for engaging students in active learning and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, educational, gender, and/or disability backgrounds.
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of subjects, work flexible hours, and travel for service-related obligations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with athletes to prevent and assess athletic injuries.
  • Curriculum and clinical training that follows a medical-based education model.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of students served at community colleges including an ability to assist and guide students having a great range of skills, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in developing academic programs that focus on student learning and promote student persistence and retention.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, and follow up on projects, including the ability to set specific learning objectives and measure achieved results.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish community relationships and develop academic offerings of public interest.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with student athletes to prevent and treat athletic injuries.
